TRAVEL REVIEW: FAM HOLIDAY IN MAURITIUS

This year we decided to bite the bullet and book our first “big” holiday as a family of three.
We have travelled a lot in the past with Amelia – interstate, several car journeys and a few flights across the ditch to NZ, but this would be our first long haul trip with child – eeek!
We decided to go to South Africa first to spend some time with my husbands family and then have our own wee family holiday in Mauritius on the way home.
Fast forward a car trip to Melbourne, flying Mel > Perth, Perth > Mauritius, Mauritius > Durban then 10 days in Durban and back on a plane to Mauritius! Ahhh we made it. Holiday time!

ACCOMMODATION: We stayed at the Sofitel L’Imperial Resort & Spa and it certainly did not disappoint! The service was exceptional and our room was incredible! We stayed in a one bedroom family suite with an ocean view. We always try to book a room with a separate bedroom so we can put Amelia down to bed and still have a lounge area we can sit in until later. The size of this suite was probably one of the biggest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. It had a separate lounge, two toilets, one large bathroom, walk in robe, and small kitchenette area. Also, the infant crib would have been one of the best – it actually had a full sized mattress in the crib which is extremely rare to find in a hotel! Winning!

FOOD: We ate at hotel restaurant for all our meals which was a buffet style restaurant with a new theme each day. Super kid friendly and decent food! I always find buffets can be hit or miss but this one was great. I would recommend bringing your own snacks especially for kids as there is no where within the resort to purchase these. I am sure you could take a drive or get a taxi to the nearest local shops but we decided to just stay within the resort for the entire time.

POOL/BEACH: The pool at the Sofitel is maaaasive! And again very kid friendly. Lots of sun loungers and beds where we spent most of our days sipping away on cocktails! The pool has a great shallow area for little kids to play around in.

FOR THE KIDS: There is a separate little kids zone within the resort with a bunch of toys, little tikes cars, small kiddies pool and indoor activities. There is also a kids club you can put your child in if you want some adult time!

SHOPPING: Ah, the only downside of an island holiday! Although I’m sure if you had transport you could easily get to a shopping centre, we did not do any shopping on this holiday apart from a bucket and spade for Amelia from the small shop at our resort! This shop had a few essential toiletry items in case you forgot something, some breach/swimwear and a few beach toys and souvenirs you could purchase if you wish.

Overall I am SO glad we went on this holiday and Mauritius really need exceed my expectations! If you are wanting a lovely couples or family island holiday definitely check Mauritius out! And bonus it’s only a 6 hour flight from Perth!
